📣📣 ESG Economic Transition: Does it really work?📣📣
Hey Koaloo.FI Community!
I had an amazing time this week at the Impact Finance RSE 2024 event in (finally sunny) Paris! 🌞 The event was packed with renowned experts diving into the challenges and solutions for the green economic transition. Here are the top highlights I took away:
💸 Financing the Transition: The funding needed is a whopping USD 3.5 trillion per year, with 90% of the ESG impact coming from supply chains. SMEs are shouldering most of the effort, but do markets and banks have enough appetite for them?
💡 We need to boost support for SMEs to make real progress.
👫 Including Non-Green Companies: It's not enough to just invest in green companies. 💡We also need to support the transition of companies that aren't quite green yet. As long as their plans are genuine and transparent, sharing their performance and KPIs can build trust and accountability.
🌡️ Evaluating Transition Plans: Assessing transition plans is a major hurdle.
💡Who has the legitimacy to do it? What's the right strategy? We need a proper debate among key stakeholders to align ESG strategies.
☄️ Evaluating Social Impact: The social impact of the green economic transition is becoming more crucial but is tough to measure.
💡Initiatives like Café Joyeux show it's possible, but we still have a long way to go. It's not just about carbon reporting - embracing the full complexity of ESG is essential.
🌏 Impact Funds: Impact funds are getting more popular, but are their ESG objectives ambitious and transparent enough?
💡One speaker pointed out that setting ESG targets is easy. Making them genuine and ambitious requires independent boards of real experts and linking ESG KPIs to financial performance.
Overall, I was super impressed by the debates and technical challenges discussed on stage, especially how ESG is being linked to companies' financial performance. Our maturity in this space is growing fast, and it's up to all of us to keep the momentum going. 🌴🌴🌴
